What do get when you cross three
guys, simple guitar music, and a desire to spread God’s word through songs?
The answer: Six String Revival!
In November of 2005, with what
was supposed to be a simple Sunday morning music special, the congregation
of Air Line Baptist Church in Gainesville, Georgia witnessed the birth of a
new Christian acoustic musical group – “Six String Revival”.
The group, which is comprised
of Ken Forrester, Randy Smith and Doug Harrell played the song “Stained
Glass Windows” (written by Forrester) and was met with not only warm
applause and the voice of “Amen” from the congregation, but with an internal
insight that they should try out this group thing.
Forrester and Harrell had been
discussing getting together to play for several months when, as Harrell
recalls, “I remember Ken calling me and asking if I would like to help him
out with the song on that upcoming Sunday morning and of course, I told him
I would. He came over to the house on Friday night to practice and we
realized that we didn’t sound half bad together.”
On Sunday morning while
practicing the song in the sanctuary, Air Line music minister, Mike Welborn,
had the look on his face of…“It sounds good guys, but something’s
missing”. Turning to Randy Smith, he said, “Grab your bass and stand
in with these guys.” That was all it took for the bond between the
three to begin.
Since then, the trio has
written several original songs with more in progress. All three members
have had many years of experience with different musical styles and playing
genre, but have settled on playing easy listening acoustic songs. “This
style of music tends to be accepted by almost every age group and it allows
us to share the gospel through the words that we feel God has given to us,
and WOW! has He ever given them to us”, Harrell says. “As a group, we never
cease to be amazed at what God can do. The songs that have flowed from our
pens are more than we ever could have expected, and that’s what let’s us
know that God is in control, and that’s where we want Him to
be. It’s so awesome to know that God is using us to help spread His good
news through something that the three of us love to do. God truly does have
a plan for everyone’s life and we are living testimony to that.”
It’s our prayer that our music
will be a blessing to those who hear it and a sweet scent to our Lord and
Savior, Jesus Christ. |
